Manufacturing in China offers thousands of opportunities. Knowing its cities better can help making the right choice of supplier with experience in your specific field of production.
China 2 West has sales and support offices around the world and multiple quality control and engineering locations within China, predominantly positioned close to manufacturing hubs. We want to provide a short introduction of the Chinese cities we’re operating in and show the city’s specializations of production.

Nantong is located in Jiangsu near Yancheng, Taizhou, Suzhou and Shanghai. Nantong, known as a “Pearl of the River and Sea”, lies on the northern bank of the Yangtze River Delta and east of the East China Sea. It is one of the 14 port cities opened to foreign investment under China’s current policies of modernization. It boasts 166 km of watercourse along the Yangtze River and over 20 km of coast line. Nantong covers an area of about 8,544 square kilometers and has a population of about 7,2 million inhabitants. The city has two major development zones, Nantong Economic & Technological Development Zone and Nantong Export Processing Zone.

Nantong’s pillar industries are chemicals, electronic information, pharmaceuticals and textiles. Other specializations available are new materials, fine chemicals, electronics, new energy, precision machinery, bio-pharmaceuticals, garments and textile fibers.

The city’s GDP accounts to 565.27 billion RMB, which accounts to a per capita GDP of 77,457 RMB. Exports in Nantong are 22,480 and imports 9,167, which gives a trade balance of 13,313 million dollar. Foreign direct investment is 2,305 million dollar.

Nantong was formed by the sedimentation of the Yangtze River in ancient times. It was famous for salt production in the Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD). In the Tang Dynasty (618-907AD), it developed links with cities in Mainland China. The local people speak the Wu dialect and some people in the southern area speak in a dialect similar to that of Shanghai.
