Coronavirus in Asia: What Should Companies do to Avoid Supply Chain Disruption?

Avoid Supply Chain Disruption

In the last 3 months, countries across Southeast Asia are facing growing coronavirus outbreaks of the pandemic. Additionally, Japan is suffering a major pandemic hit right after the Olympics. In this case, US business owners are forced to think seriously about finding new sources of supply elsewhere in Asia to avoid supply chain disruption for the following months.

China Is Still the Ideal Manufacturing Hub

The idea to move manufacturing to China is not new. However, many entrepreneurs step out to China due to the serious trade relationship between China and the US along with the uncertainty of the pandemic.

On the one hand, despite the ongoing dispute between the USA and China outsourcing manufacturing to China is still a viable and cost-effective strategy for many companies.

On the other hand, even there are new variants of COVID-19 and higher risks to be affected, China is still one of the most controllable nations in the world. Additionally, China can recover from the small range of outbreaks due to the fast response to the pandemic. More importantly, China continues vaccinating its citizens free of charge, slowing down the spread of the disease even cases are happening from time to time.

As we all know, China is one of the top manufacturing hubs of the world. The country has witnessed a remarkable change since the government enabled international trade and joined hands with the global market.

Without a doubt, China, unlike other countries in the Southeast Asia region, is back to normal, and experiencing a boom in production and consumption, making it still the ideal destination for outsourcing manufacturing.

Planning for Success

Due to the upcoming holidays like Christmas in the US, Chinese New Year,  and the unprecedented shipping crisis, you will likely be facing supply chain disruptions.

Recently, it’s been reported that the factories in China are refusing to accept new orders due to the strong rebound for Christmas orders. And the factories will be closed during the Chinese New Year for around 2 weeks to 4 weeks, which is just one month right after the Christmas season.

So, it’s highly recommended to start planning production 6-8 months ahead, to account for the expected delays and factory shutdowns. Think about placing orders for Spring 2022 now.

Finding A Right Manufacturing Partner

As a business owner, you do want to work with someone reliable and responsible. However, finding the right manufacturing service providers in China can be easy and hard at the same time. There are so many manufacturers providing all kinds of services to meet your needs but some of them may be scamming.

It takes a lot of effort, time, and expertise to evaluate the manufacturing suppliers, which may drive your focus less from your business.  So, it’s advised to use sourcing services with experience on the ground that can help you to reduce the time spent on this and increase your chances for success.
