Q: Please tell us a bit about yourself

Hi I am Kachal and I’ve been working at C2W for 6 years now. I’m working as a project engineer and my duties involve communicating with clients about product design and improvements, project management for tooling and mass production, quality control, logistics arrangements and dealing with customer complaint and find solutions.

When I joined C2W 6 years ago I was just finished with my bachelor degree in Business Management at JNU, which is China’s first and no.1 overseas Chinese university. Although my major study was Business Management in university, I’ve always got an interest in international trade. So I took a lot of optional courses in this area to prepare for it. I was originally recruited by C2W for Marketing but then I got a chance to change to my dream job which is project management! Working at C2W is my first official job after my graduation.

I would like to say that I am a person who is never satisfied about what I have learnt, which is the motivation to make me learn about other areas I am interested in, like 2D and 3D design and the process of putting the idea into an actual product.

I had also been a house teacher at night for about 8 years until 2 years ago when I was too busy in my official job to continue. I taught students from primary school to middle school for mainly Maths, English, Physics and Chemistry. For those 8 years teaching I not only managed to support my university by myself but most importantly I became more and more patient which really help me a lot in the job I do now.

Q: What do you like the most about working in C2W?

I like the company’s western management. C2W has understandable bosses who would allow enough space for my own development. I have lovely colleagues who became good friends and help me a lot.  And, a very important reason as well, at C2W we have christmas holidays.

Q: When you’re not on duty which are activities during your leisure time?

First of all I like sports including badminton, swimming, climbing, bicycling. I’m also interested in studying 2D and 3D software, like Solidworks, AutoCAD, AI.. Last of all I like reading books, mainly books about history from countries all over the world.

Q: Please tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Laura, I’m 34 years old, and I’m Sourcing Project Manager at C2W.

I was born and raised in Zhejiang, a province located in the east of China. I graduated from Huzhou University, the funny thing is that I majored in Chinese language and literature, however after my graduation I wanted to improve my English so I spent 4 years (2003—2006) to learn business English, so I devoted some of my free time after work for that, and thanks to that determination to improve my English I had the opportunity to join C2W.

In 2001 I had my first encounter with Zhuhai, everything started with a one week travel that made me fall in love with this beautiful city, I was amazed about how quiet clean and livable is the city. That’s it’s why I decided to move to Zhuhai.

I joined China 2 West in July of 2007, and I can say that I’ve learnt a lot not only from a vast array of products and manufacturing processes but also I’ve acquired knowledge that has helped me to grow as a person.

As part of the sourcing team and my tasks cover all the process from the reception of the enquiries from the clients, until the goods are delivered to their doors.

For explaining my work flow, I like to split it in three phases, which are as follow:

In the first phase, or product enquire phase I’d normally be in charge of sourcing suitable manufacturers for the given goods, verify the diverse factories’ capabilities and get competitive prices from them,

In the 2nd phase that we call the sampling phase, I’d be working with the selected supplier to ensure they manufacture the product samples as required, and soon after the client is happy with them we can start with the production process.

The 3rd phase is the production phase, in which my main task is to supervise the manufacture in order to provide high quality products and ensure there are not pitfalls in the production.

After the production is completed, I need to arrange the shipment, this includes scheduling the shipment and the preparation of all the related documents.

Q: What do you like the most about working in C2W?

I’ve been in C2W for 8 years and I want to stay here for a lot more. The team members, no matter if they are Chinese or foreigner all get along with each other really good. Every day you can find someone having fun somewhere in the office, it think this is what makes C2W a company with a relaxed and happy working atmosphere.

Q: When you’re not on duty which are activities during your leisure time?

I like to keep myself healthy and fit, so I like to do some exercise every morning before coming to the office.

In my free time during the weekends or after the office , I like to take my son and play with him in any of the many green areas of Zhuhai.

But above all, along with my husband and son we love to travel as a family, so we’re always planning which will be the next destination.

My name is Tiffany, I’m 36 years old, I’m originary from Yangjiang City, in the Guangdong Province. I majored in Commercial English in South China Normal University. During my bachelor I learned English language, international trade and marketing which all have been really helpful to perform my duties.

Before working in C2W I worked for 6 years in different cities of the Guangdong Province (Foshan, Dongguan, Shenzhen). When you are young, you always want to experience more and don’t want stay in one company for a long time.  At the end of 2007, my husband changed his work from Shenzhen to Zhuhai, and found that Zhuhai is such a beautiful city so we planned to settle down here. So I quit my job in Shenzhen and came to Zhuhai with him.

I worked 6 years in factories, but by the time we moved to Zhuhai I wanted a change in my career, so when I found the on line advert for the job position at C2W I applied and had a successful interview, and here I am after almost 8 years.

I’m Sourcing Manager in C2W and my duties cover a wide range of activities, which will normally will cover the whole process from processing the new enquiries to the shipment of the order:

It will normally start with dealing with customers’ inquiries, then sourcing suppliers and quoting within the customer requirements, after the client has chosen the supplier from the given quotations the process will continue with the sampling process, once the samples are approved by the customer and the project is ready to mass production I’d work close with the QC team to run factory audits and in process QA and QC activities, also supervise the mass production to ensure that the product will comply with all the given requirements, and if during the process any QC issues arise will act as liaison between the QC team and the client, in order to solve the issues, after mass production is done will arrange the shipment with the client.

Q: What do you like the most about working in C2W?

What I like the must of working in C2W is the freedom and flexibility to perform my duties, meanwhile in other companies there will be tight schemes, in C2W you have the flexibility to do your activities at your own pace. Also I like that is really easy to talk to the upper management and express your point of view towards any issue and they will always appreciate and take your comments in count to solve it and improve whatever has failed, to make the company a better place to work.

C2W is my first job in Zhuhai. If possible, I want to make it the last job before I get retired. When you stay in one company for a long time, and it’s a good place to work you don’t want to leave even though there’s other job offers in the market.

Q: When you’re not on duty which are activities during your leisure time?

I’m an avid sports person, and normally if the weather is good, I will go hiking around the Zhuhai hills, I love mountain cycling and I do it as often as possible. Sometimes, I also practise yoga at home to help me to clean my mind and relax. I love cooking. Ruary is a Product Design Engineer graduated from Leeds University joined China 2 West in the fall of 2012. Q: Please tell us a bit about yourself

I was born and raised in a place called West Sussex which is in the South of England, and am the eldest of 5. I went to school in West Sussex, and then went to the University of Leeds for a Degree, finishing with a Bachelors and Masters (Hons) in Product Design.

Prior to starting Product Design for a degree, I was due to start at Leeds to study Economics and Mandarin. Due to the fact that I did not like the idea of learning Economics for four more years, I switched last minute to study Product Design, with the notion that I could come out to China to learn Mandarin and experience their culture that way. Also because China is arguably the manufacturing hub of the world, the skill set that comes with being a Product Designer seemed quite well matched.

By the time I finished my time at the university, the job offers in the UK were scarce, and then the opportunity to come to China popped up so I took it.

 Ruary 1

Q: What do you like the most about your job?

What I like the most of product design is the problem solving aspects and the excitement that comes with creating new design solutions, that people might haven’t seen from that perspective, and also its exciting that you can identify the gap in the market. It’s almost as if the product was real, when it is actually only real in your head. That is quite cool.

By having the genesis of an idea that seems to full fill a gap, and going through the iterations of making that initial design solution made, and making sure that it reaches its full potential as a product, is an interesting and unpredictable process.

Q: What do you like the most about working in C2W?

I like the fact that my job role is actually quite malleable, and so I get to experience a full spectrum of responsibilities, whether it is from idea generation of a product idea, to auditing a factory to check why it may or may not be meeting the standards that are expected by us and our clients. And due the structure of the company you have the flexibility to explore new ideas and new ways of doing things, making it a non-stagnant work environment.

In C2W there’s also a massive diversity of people and cultures, and the opportunity of getting to know a broad range of approaches to life brings an extra flavour to the conversation and makes for a more creative environment and better work environment.

Another great part of being in China is that you get to experience and understand one of the fastest growing and developing cultures in the world. There’s nothing parallel in terms of its ambition and development, and hasn’t been for the last few decades. This makes the experience massively informative from a global perspective, and by working in C2W you have the opportunity to get to know how the Western and Chinese cultures can be married.

As head of design and development, if someone has a vision of a product, or they just have a few sketches, or even some CAD drawings, my job is to help them to get the product through all the stages in the production cycle from idea generation to mass production.

Q: When you’re not on duty which are activities during your leisure time?

The core general things that I enjoy tend to be creative, such as; playing guitar, singing and cooking, not all at the same time, well sometimes.. I also like to; meet up with friends, play football, listen to music, read the news, and travel to discover new places and people.
